The One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning office in Laurinburg, NC received the United Way of Scotland County’s Community Impact Award for the second year in a row. The award is given each year by the United Way to those that have had a significant impact in helping them reach their campaign goal.

The One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning office in Laurinburg, NC received the United Way of Scotland County’s Community Impact Award for the second year in a row.

The Laurinburg office has been focused on participating in community outreach events for a few years thanks to the influence of their Operations Manager William Skipper. William has been volunteering with the fire department for 21 years. He is currently the Captain of the local fire department and president of the county’s firefighters association.

“I had been talking about doing more community outreach in the office, and the United Way gave us a way to give back to the community,” William said. “We’ve worked with the United Way to volunteer at different events they’ve had.”

Every year, the office volunteers at two big events—The United Way Day of Caring and the Special Olympics— along with any other volunteer opportunities they’re asked to participate in.

United Way Day of Caring

Each year the United Way hosts a day of caring where volunteers get together to help with a range of support in the community. Check out the video for a look inside the Day of Caring.

Special Olympics

Volunteers from One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning have had the opportunity to help run the Special Olympics. This has included activities such as running events, being time judges, or being personal escorts for the athletes to ensure they make their events on time, get their awards, etc.

Last year, the Laurinburg office received the Community Impact Award during an awards program event. This year, due to COVID-19, the award was presented in the office by a United Way representative for a more private award ceremony.

“Receiving the award means so much to us because it is a thank you for our service and what we’ve done for the community,” William said.
