One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning Shares Their Most Valuable Asset

February 24, 2022

Solid team members are at the core of Brian McDonald’s growth during a global pandemic

Although Brian McDonald had been operating his HVAC business since 1987, his One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Outer Banks opened its doors in 2019. Like many other new franchises, their first year was like navigating new systems, new training, and staff turnover. Luckily, Brian hired a new Vice President of Sales, Butch Hill, who had a plan to scale through acquisitions.

Despite the hardships brought on by a global pandemic, Butch was still working on his plan to expand through acquisition, and Brian was in talks with several HVAC businesses ready to sell. “Through our first acquisition of a $1.75 million per year operation, the most valuable asset we attained was six solid staff members,” claimed Brian.

In the wake of the COVID-19 shutdown, Brian’s business has grown, and through working the system combined with strategic acquisitions, he is looking to hit the $10 million mark within the next five years. “If you’re looking to grow through acquisition, I would suggest taking a close look at the team members who will come with that company and the value they can add to your operation,” said Brian. “If you can get quality team members and some new customers, it’s a win/win.”
